I decieded to start this, via inspiration from a Friend. So I thought, why not. It's not like anybody REALLY cares what is said on a blog anyways. So I could say things like, "The President wears blue pants and pink shirts to bed." Is it true? Maybe, does anyone really care? No.
So bascially it comes down to this. I'm just going to write random krap from time to time. And I might keep it up....and I might not. Don't really care at this point.
However, I did make a discovery. I downloaded an APP to my Ipod Touch, a week ago called IDOS. What this does is emulate MS-DOS to run on your "I" Device it be a Touch/Phone/Pad/Gorilla whatever "I" krap that you may posses in your possession.
Its not the easiest to set up if you are not familier with DOS commands. But being that is the era I am from. It was a lot of fun getting back to my old roots. However, the most important thing must be noted. Not only have I been able to get Windows 3.11 running on my device. I have been able to run my Grail of games as it were....Yes, folks. I can and have been running Castles 2:Siege and Conquest and Jones in the Fast Lane on my Ipod Touch.
What does all that mean to you? Nothing...as this is my blog. But the fact that I can load old DOS games on my Ipod Touch and take it on the go, make the device THAT much more valuble to me. Also, I'm able to put to use all those old games I have on floppy laying around again.
Now as usual when something that is THIS cool comes out on the APP store. Apple pulls it. And actually this APP was pulled long before I was able to download it. So I contacted the author and he sent me a Promo code and then I was able to download it. Apple hates emulator apps. As they mimick other OS's besides Apples proprioty ones. Will this get re-released again? I'm not sure. But Apple didn't like the fact that people could transfer OLD 20+ year old software to it and well.....play games or programs that can run within the emulator. Yea know, stuff that us nostalgia whores love.
I hope they rethink this, as this opens a whole door for my Ipod Touch, besides there is a lot of Freeware and Abandonware that have been released that would be perfectly legal to put within the emulator software to play with. Emulation speeds are decent. I have a 3rd gen. But if you have the newer 4th gen or Ipad, It runs extremely well.
Again, if you are not a DOS freak, then you might not care. But it is interesting to me as that is pretty much what I grew up on DOS and Win 3.11...and since this is my Blog....well guess what, that is the way it is. Basically this little App has renewed more of my interest in my Ipod Touch, as there are so many apps that do the same thing on the app store. Sometimes it's good to get back to the days of yore.
